Massage Therapy

Massage Supports Your Overall Health

Most people are aware of the relaxation potential of massage. In our fast paced, electronically charged world, relaxation is very necessary, but that is not the only reason for massage. Massage supports your overall health and fitness. Massage increases delivery of oxygen rich blood to your muscles which helps decrease soreness and speed recovery time.

  • Chair Massage

Chair massage entails a fully clothed treatment of the head, neck, shoulders, back and arms which will relieve the effects of work or workout related stress. Chair massages help you relax and rejuvenate when you only have a few minutes to spare.

  • Swedish Massage

Swedish massage is the style that comes to mind when most people think about massage. The goal is to relax the entire body which is accomplished by rubbing the muscles with long gliding strokes in the direction of blood returning to the heart.

  • Trigger Point Therapy

A trigger point is a tight area (a knot) within muscle tissue that can cause pain in other parts of the body. A trigger point in the back, for example, may trigger pain in the neck. The pain may be sharp and intense or a dull ache. Trigger points are often caused by muscle overuse or injury. Trigger point therapy is specifically designed to treat the source of the pain through isolated pressure and release. In this type of massage, the recipient actively participates through deep breathing as well as identifying the exact location and intensity of the discomfort. The result of trigger point massage is the elimination of toxins in the muscles. Decreased pain and increased range of motion are often benefits of treatment.

  • Deep Tissue Massage

Deep tissue massage is similar to Swedish massage but is used to release chronic muscle tension. The focus is the deepest layers of muscle tissue, tendons and fascia (the protective layer surrounding muscles, bones and joints). Deep tissue massage uses strokes across the grain of the muscles, as well as with the grain as in Swedish massage. The more intense movements and techniques such as deep pressure may be slightly uncomfortable and cause soreness that lasts a couple of days resulting in the desired relaxation and pain relief.
